Beamish, previously named 'Pit Hill', is a village in County Durham, England, situated to the north east of Stanley. The village is contained within Hell Hole Wood and is home to Beamish Museum, an open-air museum seeking to replicate a northern town of the early 20th century. Do some cultural sightseeing at Prudhoe Castle and The White Room Gallery. Popular historic sites such as Derwentcote Steel Furnace and Lanchester Roman Fort are in your itinerary. Change things up with a short trip to Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Belsay (about 40 minutes away). There's still lots to do: view the masterpieces at Thought Foundation, take in the views from Causey Arch, look for all kinds of wild species at Potter's Tropical Village, and look for gifts at Lanchester Garden Centre.

For other places to visit, more things to do, reviews, and more tourist information, go to the Beamish online journey planner .

In February, daytime highs in Beamish are 8°C, while nighttime lows are 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Wed) to allow enough time to travel back home.
