Porto

— 28 nights

Unvanquished City

Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Get out of town with these interesting Porto side-trips: Church of Saint Vincent of Sousa (in Felgueiras), Braga (Arco da Porta Nova, Elevador do Bom Jesus do Monte, &more) and Coimbra (Torre da Universidade de Coimbra, Jardim Botanico, &more). Dedicate the 25th (Thu) to wine at some of the top wineries in the area. On the 28th (Sun), give your taste buds a day to remember with a local gastronomic tour. The adventure continues: snap pictures at Ponte de Dom Luis I, browse the exhibits of Museu Serralves, make a trip to Liberdade Square, and get into the urban bustle at Palacio da Bolsa.

If you are flying in from Switzerland, the closest major aiport is Francisco de Sá Carneiro Airport. In March in Porto, expect temperatures between 18°C during the day and 9°C at night.
