The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
San Felipe de Barajas Castle and Walled City of Cartagena are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Visit Plaza Santo Domingo and Torre del Reloj for their historical value. Spend the 17th (Mon) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour.
