Gangneung

A large coastal city, Gangneung has been historically separated from much of the country because of the long, stretching mountain range that runs parallel to the sea.
Get out of town with these interesting Gangneung side-trips: Donghae (Chuam Beach & Mangsang Beach). There's still lots to do: kick back and relax at Jeongdongjin Beach, stroll through Gyeongpo Beach, stroll around Tongil Park (Unification Park), and get curious at Charmsori Gramophone & Edison Science Museum.

Traveling by car from Seoul to Gangneung takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Seoul in October, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be slightly colder in Gangneung, with lows of 18°C. Jeonju

If you're a gastronomy enthusiast, you should consider a trip to Jeonju, a city hailed for its cuisine and food festivals.
Get out of town with these interesting Jeonju side-trips: Jinan-gun (Tapsa Temple & Statue of Peace), Gwanchoksa Temple (in Nonsan) and Daedunsan Natural Recreation Forest (in Geumsan-gun). The main town on the largest of Korea's islands, Jeju has a volcanic landscape protected by UNESCO. The World Heritage-listed volcanic island includes the country's highest peak, sets of impressive lava tubes and columns, and several crater lakes.
Step out of Jeju to go to Seogwipo and see Seongsan Ilchulbong, which is approximately 1h 15 min away. There's still lots to do: explore the fascinating underground world of Manjanggul Cave, take a peaceful walk through Bijarim Forest, go for a walk through Handam Coastal Trail, and stroll around Sarabong Park.

You can do a combination of train and flight from Jeonju to Jeju in 4.5 hours. Other options are to do a combination of train, taxi, and ferry; or do a combination of car and ferry.
