Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Museum-lovers will appreciate Tokyo National Museum and Edo-Tokyo Museum. Visit Sensō-ji and The East Gardens of the Imperial Palace (Edo Castle Ruin) for their historical value. Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Ghibli Museum Mitaka in Mitaka, about 44 minutes away. There's still lots to do: take a stroll through Odaiba, admire the natural beauty at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, don't miss a visit to Tokyo Tower, and enjoy breathtaking views from Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings.

San Diego, USA to Tokyo is an approximately 14-hour flight. You can also do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of bus and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 17 hours traveling from San Diego to Tokyo. In September, daily temperatures in Tokyo can reach 81°F, while at night they dip to 69°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 24th (Tue) so you can drive to Numazu.

Numazu tourism focuses primarily on what lies just outside of the town, with the urban area providing a base for wider regional, natural explorations.
Escape the urban bustle at Otago Beach and Ita Beach. Do some cultural sightseeing at Mount Fuji and Kochoji Temple. When in Numazu, make a side trip to see Toi Beach in Izu, approximately 1 hour away. There's more to do: tour the pleasant surroundings at Ose Beach.

Drive from Tokyo to Numazu in 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. September in Numazu sees daily highs of 78°F and lows of 73°F at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 27th (Fri) early enough to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Popular historic sites such as Nijo Castle and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine are in your itinerary. Do some cultural sightseeing at Gion and Sanjusangendo Temple. You can take a train from Numazu to Kyoto in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train and flight. Traveling from Numazu in September, plan for slightly colder nights in Kyoto, with lows around 68°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Wed) so you can take a train to Hiroshima.
