Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Salerno: Ravello (Cappella Sant'Angelo all'Ospedale, Ceramiche Cosmolena di Margherita di Palma, &more), Chiesa di San Francesco (in Maiori) and Minori (Liquorificio Mansi Carlo & Basilica of Saint Trofimena). Rome to Salerno is an approximately 2-hour train ride. You can also drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Rome in January, Salerno is a bit warmer at night with lows of 10°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 28th (Tue) early enough to ride a ferry to Positano.

Often referred to as the gem of the Amalfi Coast, Positano remains one of southern Italy's most sought-after vacation locales, thanks to its hillside location and picturesque, pastel buildings.
Explore Positano's surroundings by going to Duomo di Sant'Andrea (in Amalfi), Atrani (S.Maria Maddalena, Vicoli, scale e archi, &more) and Parrocchia San Giovanni (in Vietri sul Mare). There's still lots to do: explore the fascinating underground world of Grotte di Suppraiano, get great views at Belvedere Principessa di Piemonte, make a trip to Parocchia di San Luca Evangelista, and take in panoramic vistas at Torre di Grado.

Go for a jaunt from Assisi to Fabriano to see Museo del Pianoforte Storico e del Suono about 1 hour away. There's lots more to do: pause for some serene contemplation at Basilica Papale e Sacro Convento di San Francesco d'Assisi, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Eremo delle Carceri, step into the grandiose world of Rocca Maggiore, and stop by la Bottega di Malastrana.

You can drive from Positano to Assisi in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of subway and train; or take a bus. Traveling from Positano in February, things will get slightly colder in Assisi: highs are around 13°C and lows about 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 5th (Wed) early enough to drive to Florence.
