Established in 2005 by the merging of several towns and villages, Semboku boasts an Old Japan atmosphere, punctuated by traditional onsen resorts, old samurai houses, and weeping cherry trees.
You've now added Kakunodate to your itinerary. Kick off your visit on the 15th (Sun): take a stroll through Kakunodate, thenappreciate the extensive heritage of Samurai District, and then steep yourself in history at Ishiguro Samurai House. On the 16th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: look for all kinds of wild species at Sashimaki Shitsugen Mizubasho Gunseichi, take in the spiritual surroundings of Gozanoishi Shrine, thentake in the awesome beauty at Mt. Akita Komagatake, and finally soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens.

Take a train from Aomori to Semboku in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. November in Semboku sees daily highs of °C and lows of °C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Tue) early enough to drive to Yamagata.

The town of Yamagata and its surrounding prefecture have a wealth of attractions, both man-made and natural.
Start off your visit on the 17th (Tue): admire the masterpieces at Yamagata Museum of Art and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Risshaku-ji Temple. On your second day here, take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Katta, fly down the slopes at Yamagata Zao Onsen Ski Resort, thenhead outdoors with Shiginoya Chinuma, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Kumano Taisha Shrine.

Nikko Futarasan Jinja Chugushi Shrine and Yudaki Falls are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Mt. Nantai and Kirifuri Highlands Kisuge Plain.
