With coastline on the west, south, and east, Newport is a maritime city with a rich history.
Relax by the water at Goosewing Beach Preserve and Roger W. Wheeler State Beach. Get out of town with these interesting Newport side-trips: Misquamicut State Beach (in Misquamicut), East Beach (in Charlestown) and Narragansett Beach (in Narragansett).
