The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Himeji: Asago (Shirai Omachi Fuji Park & Takeda Teramachi Street), Okayama Korakuen Garden (in Okayama) and Tendaki Falls (in Yabu). There's still lots to do: go for a walk through Himeji Castle, admire the natural beauty at Koko-en Garden, contemplate the long history of Otabu Gyoko Genroku Bohatei, and identify plant and animal life at Hattoji Furusatomura.

Traveling by train from Himeji to Kyoto takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Himeji in May, plan for a bit warmer days in Kyoto, with highs around 29°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 29th (Fri) so you can take a train to Kanazawa.

Take a train from Kyoto to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Kyoto in May, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Kanazawa: temperatures range from 26°C by day to 15°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Tue) so you can drive to Fujikawaguchiko-machi.
