25 days in Lapland & Lappeenranta Itinerary

Finland's largest and most popular ski resort, the fell of Levi provides excellent slopes and lively nightlife in an enchanting setting.

Verona, Italy to Levi is an approximately 14.5-hour combination of flight and car. You can also drive. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 1 hour traveling from Verona to Levi. Expect colder weather when traveling from Verona in July: highs in Levi hover around 22°C, while lows dip to 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 6th (Sat) to allow time to travel to Inari.

Inari is Finland's largest, most sparsely populated municipality, with four official languages, more than any other in the country. Change things up with these side-trips from Inari: Saariselka (Urho Kekkonen National Park & Hippupuoti Gift Shop). You can fly from Levi to Inari in 3 hours. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. In July in Inari, expect temperatures between 20°C during the day and 11°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Wed) early enough to travel to Lappeenranta.

On the shores of the country's largest lake system, Lappeenrata serves as the economic and cultural center of southeast Finland.

You'll find plenty of places to visit near Lappeenranta: Siikalahti Wetland (in Parikkala), Kerimaki Church (in Kerimaki) and Savonlinna (Pikkukirkko & Olavinlinna Castle). Spend the 12th (Fri) exploring nature at Repovesi National Park. Traveling by combination of flight and train from Inari to Lappeenranta takes 5.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In July, Lappeenranta is a bit warmer than Inari - with highs of 24°C and lows of 15°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 18th (Thu) so you can travel to Posio.

Posio is a municipality of Finland. Start off your visit on the 19th (Fri): view the masterpieces at Pentik Hill and then take in the dramatic natural features at Korouoma Canyon. On the next day, explore the wealth of natural beauty at Riisitunturi National Park.

An urban center set amongst the great Arctic wilderness, Rovaniemi serves as the capital of Lapland province.

Venture out of the city with trips to Amethyst Mine Lapland (in Luosto) and Pyha-Luosto National Park (in Pyhatunturi). Getting from Posio to Rovaniemi by car takes about 2 hours. In July, daytime highs in Rovaniemi are 22°C, while nighttime lows are 13°C. On the 27th (Sat), wrap the sightseeing up by early afternoon so you can travel back home.
