Aptly nicknamed the Eternal City, Rome is the birthplace of the Roman Empire, one of the world's greatest civilizations ever.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at St. Peter's Square and Centro Storico Associazione Centro Storico. Arcibasilica di San Giovanni in Laterano and Church of St. Louis of the French will appeal to history buffs. There's still lots to do: admire the landmark architecture of Villa Borghese, get to know the fascinating history of Piazza Venezia, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Baldacchino di San Pietro, di Bernini, and steep yourself in history at Terme di Caracalla.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Rome is an approximately 5.5- hour combination of train and flight. You can also do a combination of train, bus, and flight; or drive.
