Finland's largest and most populated metropolis, the maritime town of Helsinki boasts varied architecture, a lively cafe culture, and plethora of picturesque natural delights.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Turku Castle and Natural History Museum (Luonnontieteellinen Museo). You'll discover tucked-away gems like Katajanokka and Johannes Church. Get out of town with these interesting Helsinki side-trips: Heureka (in Vantaa), Brunberg Candy Factory Shop (in Porvoo) and Ungern and Rosen Fortresses (in Loviisa). There's still lots to do: get engrossed in the history at Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova, buy something for everyone on your list at Turun Kauppahalli, steep yourself in history at Mannerheim Museum, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tampereen Tuomiokirkko.

Do your shopping at Ostermalm Saluhall and Stenhuset. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Sodermalm and The Swedish History Museum.
