Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Your list of things to see and do now includes Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea, Street Kart Tokyo Bay, and other attractions. You'll discover tucked-away gems like Ueno and Yanaka. Sydney, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 12.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. You'll gain 1 hour traveling from Sydney to Tokyo due to the time zone difference. Traveling from Sydney in December, expect Tokyo to be much colder, temps between 14°C and 4°C. You'll set off for Kyoto on the 20th (Mon).

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
You've now added Universal Studios Japan to your itinerary. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Kayabuki-no-sato Kitamura and Tofuku-ji Temple. Step out of Kyoto to go to Osaka and see Dotonbori, which is approximately 1h 10 min away. And it doesn't end there: wander the streets of Pontocho, make a trip to Gion, contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas.

You can take a train from Tokyo to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Other options are to fly; or drive. In December in Kyoto, expect temperatures between 13°C during the day and 4°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Tue) early enough to take a train to Osaka.

Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
For shopping fun, head to Hankyu Umeda Honten or Midosuji Street. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Arima Onsen and Hozenji Yokocho. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Osaka: Himeji (Himeji Castle, Shoshazan Engyoji, & more) and Nishinomiya Shrine (in Nishinomiya). There's lots more to do: contemplate the long history of Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine, wander the streets of Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, look for gifts at Kimono Photo Studio Wasabi Osaka, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hōzen-ji Temple.

Osaka is just a stone's throw from Kyoto. In December, daytime highs in Osaka are 13°C, while nighttime lows are 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Mon) to allow enough time to travel to Sapporo.

A modern, bustling city known for its beer brewery, Sapporo attracts millions of visitors with its Snow Festival, during which elaborate ice and snow sculptures are exhibited all over town.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Thermal Spas and Mitsui Outlet Park, Sapporo Kitahiroshima. Do your shopping at Tanukikoji Shopping Street and Sapporo Factory. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Sapporo: Sankaku Market (in Otaru), Furano Marche (in Furano) and Chitose Outlet Mall Rera (in Chitose). There's lots more to do: browse the different shops at Odori Bisse, contemplate the long history of Sapporo Clock Tower, take in the exciting artwork at Kita Ichijo Sapporo History Photo Gallery, and take a stroll around Sapporo Underground Shopping Centre Aurora Town.

Traveling by flight from Osaka to Sapporo takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or take a train. While traveling from Osaka, expect cooler days and slightly colder nights in Sapporo, ranging from highs of 0°C to lows of -2°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
