A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.

You can do a combination of taxi, flight, and train from Shari-cho to Takayama in 8.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of train and flight; or do a combination of car and ferry. Plan for a bit warmer temperatures traveling from Shari-cho in September, with highs in Takayama at 30°C and lows at 22°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Mon) so you can travel to Miyakojima.

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Sunayama Beach and Shimojiiima Island. There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Aragusuku Beach, snap pictures at Ikema Ohashi Bridge, go for a walk through Nishihenna Cape, and step off the mainland to explore Irabu-jima Island.
