Get in touch with nature at Cape Hirakubozaki and Stand-Up Paddleboarding. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Kondoi Beach and Kayaking & Canoeing. Getting from Ishigaki to Ibusuki by flight takes about 6.5 hours. In January, Ibusuki is a bit cooler than Ishigaki - with highs of 12°C and lows of 8°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Wed) so you can travel to Ise.

You can fly from Ibusuki to Ise in 7 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Traveling from Ibusuki in January, expect nights in Ise to be about the same, around 7°C, while days are slightly colder, around 9°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Thu) so you can go by car to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Visit Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple for their historical value. Do your shopping at Dotombori District and Nishiki Market Shopping District. Change things up with a short trip to Todai-ji Temple in Nara (about 1 hour away). There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Toji, step into the grandiose world of Osaka Castle, steep yourself in history at Tofuku-ji Temple, and make a trip to Gion.

You can drive from Ise to Kyoto in 2 hours. Other options are to take a train; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Ise in January, plan for little chillier nights in Kyoto, with lows around 1°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Kanazawa.
