A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Step off the beaten path and head to Toguchi no Hama and Ikema-jima Island. Escape the urban bustle at Sunayama Beach and Scuba & Snorkeling. There's still lots to do: step off the mainland to explore Shimojiiima Island, take in the views from Irabu Ohashi, take in the pleasant sights at Imugya Marine Garden, and visit a coastal fixture at Higashi Hennazaki Lighthouse.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Head to Dotombori District and Naniwa Meibutsu Ichibirian Dotomborifor some retail therapy. Do some cultural sightseeing at Kitano Tenmangu Shrine and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine.
