Founded in 1842, the town of Salento represents the oldest established settlement in Quindio.

Get out of town with these interesting Salento side-trips: Cascadas del Rio Verde (in Cordoba), Chinchina (Hacienda El Sinai & Hacienda Guayabal) and Monumento a Cristo Rey (in Belalcazar). Spend the 9th (Fri) exploring nature at Bosques de Cocora. Monteria to Salento is an approximately 13.5-hour car ride. You can also do a combination of car and flight. Prepare for slightly colder weather when traveling from Monteria in November: high temperatures in Salento hover around 32°C and lows are around 20°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 17th (Sat) early enough to travel to Medellin.

Nestled between rising hills in a narrow valley, Medellin serves as an energetic melting pot of people from all socio-economic classes.

An industrial port city on Colombia's Caribbean coast, Barranquilla represents the fourth-most populous city in the country.

Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Thu): examine the collection at Museo del Caribe, learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Zoologico de Barranquilla, and then contemplate the long history of Castillo de Salgar. Fly from Medellin to Barranquilla in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Medellin in November, things will get somewhat warmer in Barranquilla: highs are around 38°C and lows about 28°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Fri) so you can drive to Cartagena.

The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.

Take a break from Cartagena with a short trip to Playa Blanca in Isla Baru, about 1h 5 min away. Next up on the itinerary: explore the historical opulence of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, contemplate the long history of Walled City of Cartagena, make a trip to Plaza Bolivar, and admire the striking features of Las Bovedas.
