Cartagena

— 21 nights

City of Heroes

The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
Head to NH Galeria and Lili Duran Design Studiofor some retail therapy. Casa Museo Rafael Nunez and Galeon Bucanero will appeal to museum buffs. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Cartagena: Fuerte de San Fernando de Bocachica (in Bocachica), Isla Baru (Aviario Nacional de Colombia, Playa Puntilla, &more) and Tierrabomba Island (in Isla Tierra Bomba). On the 24th (Sun), spend a cool day on the water with Veleros Colombia. There's still lots to do: steep yourself in history at Plaza Fernandez Madrid, take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia de la Trinidad, get to know the fascinating history of Barrio Getsemani, and race across the water with Boats4U.

For other places to visit, where to stay, more things to do, and other tourist information, you can read our Cartagena trip builder.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Rafael Nuñez International Airport and Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport. Expect a daytime high around 89°F in March, and nighttime lows around 77°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 25th (Mon) so you can travel back home.
