Called "Oporto" by many, the city of Porto along the Duoro River lent the country and Port wine their names. Portugal's second-largest metropolis dates back to the 4th century, representing both a rich cultural past and industrial present through its architecture and style.
Head to Palacio da Bolsa and Mercado Bom Sucessofor plenty of shopping. Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral) and Monumento aos Herois da Guerra Peninsular will appeal to history buffs. Spend the 2nd (Fri) wandering through the wild on a nature and wildlife tour. The adventure continues: take in the views from Ponte de Dom Luis I, make a trip to Jardim da Rotunda da Boavista, take a stroll through Rua Santa Catarina, and tour the pleasant surroundings at Praia de Lavadores.

Manama, Bahrain to Porto is an approximately 11.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone difference moving from Arabia Standard Time to Western European Time is minus 3 hours. In July, Porto is cooler than Manama - with highs of 28°C and lows of 17°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Sun) early enough to travel to Tavira.

You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Cabanas de Tavira beach and Praia de Monte Gordo. Get outdoors at Dolphin & Whale Watching and Costabeach Tavira Island and Tours. Explore Tavira's surroundings by going to Old Town Faro (in Faro) and Canastra (in Estoi). It doesn't end there: walk around Ria Formosa.
