Although Myanmar moved its capital to Naypyidaw in 2005, Yangon remains the largest city and commercial hub in the country.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Botahtaung Pagoda and Balloon Rides. Get a sense of the local culture at Shwedagon Pagoda and Immaculate Conception Cathedral. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Yangon (Rangoon): Bago (Shwethalyaung Buddha & Shwemawdaw Paya).
