Get out of town with these interesting Hiroshima side-trips: Hatsukaichi (Itsukushima Shrine Torii, Itsukushima Shrine, & more) and Kurashiki (Ohara Museum of Art, Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, & more). Valletta, Malta to Hiroshima is an approximately 19.5-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly. The time zone difference when traveling from Valletta to Hiroshima is 8 hours. The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Get out of town with these interesting Himeji side-trips: Awaga Shrine (in Asago), Okayama Korakuen Garden (in Okayama) and Tendaki Falls (in Yabu). There's lots more to do: don't miss a visit to Himeji Castle, take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en Garden, and take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Kuma.

Getting from Hiroshima to Himeji by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or do a combination of bus and train. September in Himeji sees daily highs of 31°C and lows of 26°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Mon) early enough to catch the train to Kyoto.

You can take a train from Himeji to Kyoto in an hour. Other options are to drive; or take a bus. Plan for a bit cooler nights when traveling from Himeji in September since evenings lows in Kyoto dip to 23°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Sat) early enough to catch the train to Kanazawa.
