Most trips to Awaji remain fairly brief stop-offs on the expressway between Honshu and Shikoku.
You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Kiseki no Hoshi Botanical Museum and Izanagi Shrine. Appreciate the collections at Nojima Fault Preservation Museum and Awaji Oiso Artyama. Walkable, small, and aesthetically charming, Kobe has served as Japan's first and premier international trading outpost since opening to trade with China in the mid-19th century.
Visiting Mt Shosha hiking and Nunobiki Falls (Nunobiki-No-Taki) will get you outdoors. You'll discover tucked-away gems like UCC Coffee Museum and Suma Rikyu Park. Explore Kobe's surroundings by going to Himeji (Himeji Castle, Hiromine Shrine, &more) and Nishinomiya (KidZania Koshien & Shukugawa Park).
