City of Azaleas

Situated in a basin between two mountain ranges, Taipei appeals to tourists with its blend of Asian cultures, living side by side amidst Japanese-era mansions and Taoist temples.
Get some historical perspective at Songshan Ciyou Temple and Guandu Temple (Kuantu Temple). Relax by the water at White Sand Bay and Yilan Lover's Bay. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Taipei: Keelung Martyrs' Shrine (in Keelung), Fulung Beach (in Gongliao) and Gold Museum, New Taipei Government (in Ruifang). Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Taipei is an approximately 8-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. In July, plan for daily highs up to 40°C, and evening lows to 31°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 10th (Fri) to allow enough time to take a train to Tainan.

Phoenix City

The oldest city in the country, Tainan stood as the island's capital during feudal times.
Visit Kailung Temple and Anping Fort (Anping gubao) for their historical value. Visit Ma Sha Gou Beach Recreation Area and Longshan Hao Shengtai Zhi Lu for some beach relaxation. There's still lots to do: deepen your understanding at National Cheng Kung University, steep yourself in history at Anping Tree House, examine the collection at National Museum of Taiwan Literature, and visit Guohua Street.

You can take a train from Taipei to Tainan in 3 hours. Other options are to drive; or fly. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Mon) so you can take a train to Kaohsiung.

Kaohsiung

Harbor City

A small trading town in the 17th century, Kaohsiung now stands as a sprawling metropolis, its harbor representing the largest on the island.
Get a sense of the local culture at National Science and Technology Museum, Kaohsiung and Fu'an Temple. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Jin Hai Gong and Fo Guang Shan. Get out of town with these interesting Kaohsiung side-trips: National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium (in Checheng), Dapeng Bay National Scenic Area (in Donggang) and Nanwan Beach (in Hengchun). There's still lots to do: admire the masterpieces at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, enjoy the sand and surf at Qi Jing Bathing Beach, get outside with Siao Liou Ciou Ge Ban Bay Beach Venice Beach, and admire the striking features of Wen Long Gong.

You can take a train from Tainan to Kaohsiung in an hour. Alternatively, you can drive. In July in Kaohsiung, expect temperatures between 38°C during the day and 31°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) to allow time to drive to Hualien.

Hualien

Huashi

Nestled between the sea and the mountains, Hualien boasts a number of attractions, both natural and manmade.
Get a sense of the local culture at Lintienshan Forestry Culture Park and Holy Temple. We've included these beaches for you: Jici Seaside Areas and Chishingtan Scenic Area. There's lots more to do: admire the verdant scenery at Mukumugi Valley, explore the landscape on two wheels at Qixing Lake Binhai Bicycle Road, take a stroll through Ruisui Ranch, and head outdoors with Baiyang Trail.

You can drive from Kaohsiung to Hualien in 5 hours. Another option is to take a train. You'll have a few hours on the 24th (Fri) to wrap things up before traveling home.
