The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
On the 22nd (Sun), take in the architecture and atmosphere at Sanctuary of Saint Peter Claver, then contemplate the long history of Plaza Fernandez Madrid, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Templo de Santo Domingo, and finally get to know the fascinating history of Bairro Getsemani. On the next day, identify plant and animal life at Aviario Nacional de Colombia, explore the historical opulence of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, then take in the architecture and atmosphere at Iglesia de Santo Toribio, and finally make a trip to Plaza de La Trinidad.
