Established by presidential decree in 1831, Tacuarembo grew over time into the capital of its eponymous department, largely because of its agricultural industry fed by the Tacuarembo river that flows through the northern part of town.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Sat): take in the dramatic natural features at Pozo Hondo, see the interesting displays at Museu FordT City, and then pause for some serene contemplation at Saint Fructuosus Cathedral.
