The riverside capital of Laos, Vientiane still has a relatively small urban area and a laid-back, relaxed feel to it.
Attractions like Buddha Park and Ocean Park at Lao ITECC make great kid-friendly stops. Do some cultural sightseeing at Great Sacred Stupa (Pha That Luang) and Wat Ho Phra Keo. Venture out of the city with trips to Mekong River (in Tha Heua) and Nam Ngum Dam (in Thalat). Designated a World Heritage Site in 1995, Luang Prabang sits at the meeting point of two rivers and offers numerous opportunities for sailing, climbing, and exploring scenic caves and waterfalls.
Get some cultural insight at Wat Xieng Thong and Royal Palace Museum. Get in touch with nature at Kuang Si Waterfall and Kuang Si Butterfly Farm. Take a break from Luang Prabang with a short trip to 100 Waterfalls in Nong Khiaw, about 52 minutes away.
