Adelaide, Australia to Osaka is an approximately 16-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. Traveling from Adelaide in October, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Osaka, with lows of 17°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 27th (Sun) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step out of Kyoto to go to Nara and see Todai-ji Temple, which is approximately 1 hour away. There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, take in the spiritual surroundings of Ginkakuji Temple, make a trip to Heian Shrine, and explore the historical opulence of Nijo Castle.

Kyoto is very close to Osaka. In October, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 27°C, while at night they dip to 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 31st (Thu) so you can take a train to Hiroshima.
