The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.
Take a break from Cartagena with a short trip to Playa Blanca in Isla Baru, about 1h 05 min away. Next up on the itinerary: explore the historical opulence of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, gain insight at Plaza Santo Domingo, admire the striking features of Claustro de la Merced Mausoleo de Garcia Marquez, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Sanctuary of Saint Peter Claver.

The capital city of Quindio Department, Armenia was founded in 1889 by Jesus Maria Ocampo as he sought a hideout in the Quindio mountains.
