Cartagena
— 19 nights

City of Heroes
The site of the continent's first Spanish colony, Cartagena retains much of its colonial flavor thanks to a World Heritage-listed old town, encircled by old walls and protected by imposing fortresses.Visiting Playa Blanca and Aviario Nacional de Colombia will get you outdoors. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Barrio Getsemani and Plaza de San Pedro Claver. Venture out of the city with trips to Playa Puntilla (in Isla Baru) and Isla Tierra Bomba (Playa De Punta Arena & Tierrabomba Island). On the 9th (Wed), spend a cool day on the water with Veleros Colombia. Spend the 10th (Thu) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. The adventure continues: capture your vacation like a pro with an inspiring photography tour, take in the spiritual surroundings of Templo de Santo Domingo, don't miss a visit to Plaza de la Proclamacion, and pause for some serene contemplation at Iglesia de Santo Toribio.
For ratings, where to stay, maps, and other tourist information, refer to the Cartagena holiday planner.
If you are flying in from Chile, the closest major aiports are Rafael Nuñez International Airport and Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport. In January, daily temperatures in Cartagena can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 28°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
