The gateway to one of the largest monastery complexes in Greece, the small town of Kalambaka nestles against a landscape of imposing rock formations rising 400 m (1,300 ft) into the air. Nearly leveled during World War II, the town rebuilt and reinvented itself in the post-war period, quickly becoming one of the region's major travel destinations.
On the 29th (Fri), take in the spiritual surroundings of Holy Trinity Monastery (Agia Triada), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Roussanou Monastery, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Monastery of the Great Meteoron, then admire the natural beauty at Varlaam Monastery, and finally see the interesting displays at Geological Formation Museum of Meteora. On the 30th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: examine the collection at Natural History Museum of Meteora and Mushroom Museum, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Meteora, get engrossed in the history at Hellenic Culture Museum, then pause for some serene contemplation at Byzantine Church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Agios Stefanos.
