Walkable, small, and aesthetically charming, Kobe has served as Japan's first and premier international trading outpost since opening to trade with China in the mid-19th century.
Start off your visit on the 28th (Mon): indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at some of the top local onsens, make a trip to Kobe Motomachi Shopping Street, then wander the streets of Kobe Harborland, then wander the streets of Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown), and finally make a trip to Sannomiya Center Gai Shopping Street.

Tokyo to Kobe is an approximately 3-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. In December in Kobe, expect temperatures between 13°C during the day and 6°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 28th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Toyooka.

Drive from Kobe to Toyooka in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Kobe in December, you will find days in Toyooka are slightly colder (9°C), and nights are about the same (3°C). Cap off your sightseeing on the 29th (Tue) early enough to catch the train back home.
