North Sulawesi travel guide

4.1
Nature & Parks · Scuba & Snorkeling · Bodies of Water
Like much of Indonesia, the province of North Sulawesi offers vast natural diversity. A typical North Sulawesi ininerary might include exploring teeming coral reefs, trekking through wildlife-rich jungle, and visiting the desolate moonscapes of active volcanoes. Five animal sanctuaries and tourist parks provide protected areas in which to see a wide variety of animals, including palm civets, macaques, and many colorful tropical birds. Unlike the rest of Indonesia, North Sulawesi still displays a strong Dutch influence and has a majority Christian population. Alongside the Western-influenced architecture, one of the most noticeable consequences is that pork features heavily in the local cuisine (plus seafood and fowl), and alcohol is more readily available.
