Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Senso-ji Temple and Hase-dera Temple. Your inner history buff will appreciate Kōtoku-in and Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. When in Tokyo, make a side trip to see Hase-dera Temple Kannondo in Kamakura, approximately Kamakura away. There's lots more to do: wander the streets of Odaiba District, take in nature's colorful creations at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, don't miss a visit to Meiji Jingu Shrine, and visit Akihabara.

Vienna, Austria to Tokyo is an approximately 16-hour flight. The time zone changes from Central European Standard Time (CET) to Japan Standard Time (JST), which is usually an 8 hour difference. Traveling from Vienna in March, expect Tokyo to be a bit warmer, temps between 17°C and 7°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 30th (Tue) early enough to travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Visit Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple for their historical value. Get some cultural insight at Kinkaku-ji and Gion. Traveling by train from Tokyo to Kyoto takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. In March, plan for daily highs up to 16°C, and evening lows to 5°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 3rd (Sat) to allow enough time to drive to Osaka.
