Start off your visit on the 15th (Fri): explore the world behind art at 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, explore the historical opulence of Kanazawa Castle, then admire the natural beauty at Kenrokuen Garden, then examine the collection at Ishikawa Prefectural Museum for Traditional Products and Crafts, and finally make a trip to Seisonkaku Villa. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Angoji Temple, indulge your thirst for a good beer at Yachiya Sake Brewery, wander the streets of Higashichaya Old Town, admire the striking features of Kanazawa Station, then make a trip to Omicho Market, and finally steep yourself in history at Nomura Family Samurai House.

Houston, USA to Kanazawa is an approximately 18.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train. The time zone difference moving from Central Standard Time to Japan Standard Time is 15 hours. Traveling from Houston in May, things will get a bit cooler in Kanazawa: highs are around 72°F and lows about 55°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Sat) so you can take a train to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Step out of Kyoto with an excursion to Universal Studios Japan in Konohana--about 1h 15 min away. There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, make a trip to Arashiyama, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, and walk around Rakusai Chikurin Park.

Take a train from Kanazawa to Kyoto in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. In May, daily temperatures in Kyoto can reach 77°F, while at night they dip to 59°F. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Wed) early enough to catch the train to Himeji.

The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Start off your visit on the 21st (Thu): admire the natural beauty at Koko-en, then make a trip to Himeji Castle, then steep yourself in history at Nishi no Maru, and finally walk around Kunimi no Mori Park. Keep things going the next day: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Yoneda Taishiji Temple, take in the awesome beauty at Mt. Takamikura, and then head outdoors with Mt Shosha hiking.

Traveling by train from Kyoto to Himeji takes an hour. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Kyoto in May: highs in Himeji hover around 71°F, while lows dip to 63°F. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Fri) so you can catch the train to Hiroshima.
