The castle around which the city of Himeji has developed represents one of the best preserved in the country, and has been designated as a national treasure and a World Heritage Site.
Explore Himeji's surroundings by going to Mt. Kuma (in Bizen), Awaga Shrine (in Asago) and Yabu (Tarumino Ozakura & Tendaki Falls). There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Himeji Castle, take in nature's colorful creations at Koko-en Garden, and take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Mt. Takamikura.

Getting from Hiroshima to Himeji by train takes about an hour. Other options: drive; or do a combination of bus and train. In June, daily temperatures in Himeji can reach 76°F, while at night they dip to 69°F. Finish your sightseeing early on the 1st (Mon) so you can take a train to Kyoto.
