One of east Asia's major cultural and financial centers, Seoul boasts five World Heritage Sites and a huge selection of museums, temples, shrines, palaces, parks, gardens, and glass-and-steel skyscrapers.
Take a break from the city and head to Cheonggyecheon Stream and Bukhansan National Park. Get a sense of the local culture at Gyeongbokgung Palace and Bukchon Hanok Village. There's still lots to do: stop by Myeongdong Shopping Street, take a stroll through Insadong, admire the landmark architecture of Changdeokgung Palace, and get a sense of history and politics at Seoul City Hall.

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
Kick off your visit on the 14th (Thu): contemplate the waterfront views at Bomun Lake, then contemplate the long history of Bulguksa Temple, then appreciate the history behind Seokguram, and finally hunt for treasures at Jukdo Market. On the next day, see the interesting displays at Gyeongju National Museum, contemplate the waterfront views at Anapji Pond, then steep yourself in history at Cheomseongdae Observatory, then contemplate the long history of Cheonmachong Tomb, and finally contemplate the long history of Gyeongju Historic Area.

Traveling from Seoul in January, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Gyeongju, with lows of 0°C.
