Getting from Kyoto to Yamanouchi-machi by combination of train and taxi takes about 5.5 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of train and bus. Traveling from Kyoto in April, expect nights in Yamanouchi-machi to be about the same, around 10°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 14th (Wed) to allow time for travel back home.
