An island town, capital of the landlocked region of Peten, attractive Flores features pleasant architecture that complements the shimmering appearance of the surrounding lake.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Ixpanpajul Nature Park and Catedral de Flores. Get some historical perspective at Tikal and Dos Pilas. Go for a jaunt from Flores to El Remate to see Cerro Biotope Cahui about 32 minutes away. And it doesn't end there: delve into the distant past at Parque arqueologico uaxactun, Head underground at Actún Can, examine the collection at Museo del Islote Santa Barbara, and get outside with Mirador del Rey Canek.
