The booming city of Bucharest is a sophisticated metropolis with a high contrast of old- and new-world architecture.
Kick off your visit on the 25th (Thu): walk around Herăstrău Park, then contemplate the long history of Stavropoleos Monastery, and then get a sense of history and politics at Palace of Parliament. On the 27th (Sat), examine the collection at Ретро Музей/Retro Museum and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin. Step out of Sofia with an excursion to Rila Monastery in Rila--about 1h 30 min away. Traveling from Sunny Beach in June, Sofia is a bit cooler at night with lows of 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Thu) to allow enough time to drive to Skopje.
