If you are flying in from Singapore, the closest major aiports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport, Ibaraki Airport / JASDF Hyakuri Air Base and Yokota Air Base. December in Tokyo sees daily highs of 14°C and lows of 4°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Nikko.

Nikko

A gateway to a sprawling and diverse national park, a center of Shinto spiritualism and place of Buddhist worship, an emblem of the riches and dominance of the Tokugawa shogunate: Nikko means many things to many people.
Start off your visit on the 16th (Mon): get in on the family fun at Tobu World Square and then get in on the family fun at Edo Wonderland Nikko Edomura. Here are some ideas for day two: contemplate the long history of Nikko Futarasan jinja, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Taiyuimbyo Shrine, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Nikko Tosho-gu, and finally wander the wide-open spaces of Minamigaoka Ranch.

You can drive from Tokyo to Nikko in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or take a bus. Expect a bit cooler weather when traveling from Tokyo in December: highs in Nikko hover around 11°C, while lows dip to 8°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 18th (Wed) to allow time for the car ride back home.
