Kyoto

— 17 nights
The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Venture out of the city with trips to Osaka (Mint Museum, Zoheikyoku Sakura no Torinuke, &more), Nara (Tokuyu-ji Temple, Nara Park, &more) and Jindoji Temple (in Kizugawa). There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, stop by Gion, take in the pleasant sights at Arashiyama, and take in the spiritual surroundings of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine.

To find ratings, other places to visit, and more tourist information, refer to the Kyoto visit planner.

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major aiports are Osaka International Airport, Kansai International Airport and Chubu Centrair International Airport. In April, plan for daily highs up to 67°F, and evening lows to 50°F.
