Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Step off the beaten path and head to Asakusa Shrine and Tokyo National Museum The Heiseikan. Popular historic sites such as Tokyo National Museum and Nezu Shrine are in your itinerary. There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Sensō-ji, take a stroll through Ueno, admire the masterpieces at teamLab Borderless, and see the interesting displays at Fire Museum.

Explore hidden gems such as Chirihama Nagisa Driveway and Natadera Temple. Visit Daihonzan Eiheiji Temple and The Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go Gassho Style Houses for their historical value. Change things up with these side-trips from Kanazawa: Maruoka Castle (in Sakai), Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum (in Katsuyama) and Nanto (Gokayama & Ainokura Gassho Community). You can take a train from Tokyo to Kanazawa in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or drive. While traveling from Tokyo, expect a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Kanazawa, ranging from highs of 11°C to lows of 3°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) to allow enough time to take a train to Kyoto.

Step off the beaten path and head to Eikando Zenrinji Temple and Chion-in Temple. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Nijo Castle. When in Kyoto, make a side trip to see Dotonbori in Osaka, approximately 1h 10 min away. There's much more to do: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, take a stroll through Gion, contemplate the long history of Sanjusangendo Temple, and pick up a one of a kind souvenir at Maiko Antiques Kyoto.
