Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
On the 7th (Mon), don't miss a visit to Meiji Jingu Shrine, then get a sense of history and politics at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Buildings, then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sensō-ji, and finally admire the masterpieces at Tokyo National Museum. Keep things going the next day: take a stroll through Odaiba and then don't miss a visit to Tokyo Tower.

If you are flying in from Switzerland, the closest major airports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport and Hyakuri Airport. An important industrial hub with a sizable immigrant population from South America, Hamamatsu has developed a taste for international cuisine and arts.
Get a sense of the local culture at Hamamatsu Air Park and Ryotan-ji Temple. Explore Hamamatsu's surroundings by going to Toyokawa Inari Temple (in Toyokawa) and Kakegawa (Kakegawa Castle & Kakegawa Kachouen). And it doesn't end there: get engrossed in the history at Hamamatsu City Regional Heritage Center, examine the collection at Suzuki Plaza, contemplate the long history of Zudaji Castle and Matsushita Residence Remains, and make a trip to Hamamatsu Castle Tower Gate.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Gion. When in Kyoto, make a side trip to see Osaka Castle in Osaka, approximately 1h 10 min away. There's still lots to do: contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Eikando Zenrinji Temple, make a trip to Heian Shrine, and step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle.

You can take a train from Hamamatsu to Kyoto in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. October in Kyoto sees daily highs of 27°C and lows of 18°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 16th (Wed) so you can take a train to Himeji.

The gateway to a wealth of dynamic landscapes and some of the country's most atmospheric religious and cultural sites, Oita, in touristic terms, acts primarily as a transport hub.
Start off your visit on the 19th (Sat): admire the masterpieces at Oita Prefectural Art Museum, browse the different shops at JR Oita City, then meet the residents at Oita Marine Palace Aquarium Umitamago, and finally soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens.

Get some cultural insight at Kakeroma Island Exhibit Experience Exchange Museum and Tanaka Isson Museum. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Amami: Kakeroma Island (in Setouchi-cho), Tatsugo-cho (Kurasaki Beach & The Remains of Nanshu Saigo) and Amami Wildlife Center (in Yamato-son). Next up on the itinerary: explore the striking landscape of Mangrove Primeval Forest, examine the collection at Amami Marine Exhibition Hall, make a trip to Mangrove Observatory, and kick back and relax at Tomori Beach.

Traveling by car from Oita to Amami takes 18 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and flight. Traveling from Oita in October, expect Amami to be a bit warmer, temps between 32°C and 28°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Thu) early enough to travel back home.
