The largest city on the island, Fukuoka formed through the merger of two former cities that had grown up either side of the Naka River.
Venture out of the city with trips to Dazaifu Tenman-gu (in Dazaifu), Huis Ten Bosch (in Sasebo) and Nagasaki (Kannondo, Glover Garden, &more). The adventure continues: go for a walk through Ohori Park, take an in-depth tour of Hakatamachiya Furusatokan, explore the historical opulence of Onojo - Chikuzenkoku, and have some family-friendly fun at Fukuro no Mise, Hakata.
