Iwakuni
— 17 nights

The castle town of Iwakuni has an interesting and varied history populated by samurai warriors and U.S.Kaiten Museum and Anno Art Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step out of the city life by going to Mizuho Highland and Geihoku Kokusai Ski Resort. Get out of town with these interesting Iwakuni side-trips: Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum (in Masuda), Sandan-kyo (in Akiota-cho) and Hagi (Birth Place of Shoin Yoshida, Tokoji Temple, &more). There's still lots to do: test the waters at a local thermal spa, appreciate the extensive heritage of Osaki Shimo-jima Island Mitarai Area, examine the collection at Museum of Japanese Emigration to Hawaii, and contemplate the long history of Old Mekata Family's House.
To find reviews, photos, more things to do, and tourist information, use the Iwakuni trip maker site.
Expect a daytime high around 13°C in December, and nighttime lows around 4°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 14th (Mon) early enough to travel back home.
