Famed for its landscape of unusually shaped stone formations and churches cut into the natural rocks, Goreme sits in the central part of the country, an area originally settled during Roman times.
For shopping fun, head to La Maison du Kilim or Avanos Carsi Seramik. Güvercinlik Vadisi (Pigeon Valley) and Guray Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Goreme side-trips: Derinkuyu Yeralti Sehri (in Derinkuyu) and Mount Erciyes (in Kayseri).
