The former capital of Guatemala and a World Heritage Site, Antigua retains its colonial charm and remains one of the most visited destinations in the country.
You'll find plenty of places to visit near Antigua: Guatemala City (Plaza Espana, La Aurora Zoo, &more). There's much more to do: get impressive views of Volcán Pacaya, admire the masterpieces at Casa Santo Domingo Museums, see the interesting displays at ChocoMuseo, and make a trip to The Plaza Central Park.

An island town, capital of the landlocked region of Peten, attractive Flores features pleasant architecture that complements the shimmering appearance of the surrounding lake.
Step out of Flores to go to El Remate and see Cerro Biotope Cahui, which is approximately 32 minutes away. There's lots more to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Ixpanpajul Nature Park, head outdoors with Mirador del Rey Canek, delve into the distant past at Sitio Arqueologico Tayazal, and see the interesting displays at Museo del Islote Santa Barbara.

You can fly from Antigua to Flores in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can take a shuttle; or drive. San Agustín Lanquín, often referred to simply as Lanquín, is a municipality in the Guatemalan department of Alta Verapaz. On the 11th (Fri), head outdoors with Aventura Grande, then explore the activities along Monumento Natural Semuc Champey, and then Head underground at Grutas Las Marias.

Named for the Quetzal bird--one of Guatemala's national symbols--Quetzaltenango once included the territories controlled by K'iche' Mayans, a pre-Columbian tribe eventually supplanted by Spanish conquistadores.
Change things up with these side-trips from Quetzaltenango: Retalhuleu (Xocomil & Xetulul Theme Park) and Fuentes Georginas (in Zunil).
