Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Odaiba District and Asakusa. Deepen your sense of the past at sights like Senso-ji Temple and Fukagawa Edo Museum. Take a break from Tokyo with a short trip to Tokyo DisneySea in Maihama, about 40 minutes away. Beppu

The resort town of Beppu puts the geothermal nature of the region to good use.
Do your shopping at Beppu City Traditional Bamboo Crafts Center and JR Oita City. Your itinerary includes some good beach time at Matama Beach and Tanoura Beach. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Beppu: Usajingu Shrine (in Usa) and Bungotakada (Tennen-ji Temple & Kumano Magaibutsu). There's much more to do: witness a stunning natural landmark at Hells of Beppu, relax and rejuvenate at some of the best spas, tour the pleasant surroundings at Chinoike Jigoku, and make a trip to Oniishibozu Jigoku.

Expect a bit cooler weather when traveling from Kyoto in August: highs in Beppu hover around 34°C, while lows dip to 30°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 22nd (Sat) so you can go by car to Yufu.
