Aizuwakamatsu

Rich in culture and history, Aizuwakamatsu has retained much of its traditional character from its days as a feudal capital.
Kick off your visit on the 1st (Thu): make a trip to Aizuhanshu Matsudaira Family Grave, admire the natural beauty at Oyakuen, then explore the historical opulence of Tsuruga jo Castle, then step into the grandiose world of Castle Tower Local Museum of Wakamatsu Castle, and finally don't miss a visit to Nanokamachidori. Tokyo to Aizuwakamatsu is an approximately 3.5-hour car ride. You can also take a train; or take a bus. Traveling from Tokyo in April, expect Aizuwakamatsu to be little chillier, temps between 17°C and 8°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 2nd (Fri) so you can go by car to Yamagata.

Yamagata

The town of Yamagata and its surrounding prefecture have a wealth of attractions, both man-made and natural.
Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Yamagata: Sendai (Hirose River, Sendai Station, &more), O-torii (in Zao-machi) and Miyagi Zao Fox Village (in Shiroishi). There's lots more to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Risshaku-ji Temple, pause for some photo ops at Matsuo Basho and Sora Statue, make a trip to Large Ginkgo Tree in Yamadera, and fly down the slopes at Yamagata Zao Onsen Ski Resort.

In April in Yamagata, expect temperatures between 18°C during the day and 9°C at night. Finish your sightseeing early on the 5th (Mon) to allow enough time to drive to Matsushima-machi.

Matsushima-machi

Matsushima-machi has long enjoyed a reputation for its natural scenery: back in the 17th century, scholar Hayashi Gaho listed its bay as one of the Three Views of Japan.
On the 6th (Tue), hunt for treasures at Shiogama Seafood Market, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shiogama Shrine, then contemplate the long history of Godaido, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Entsu-in Temple, and finally make a trip to Ojima Island. Semboku

Established in 2005 by the merging of several towns and villages, Semboku boasts an Old Japan atmosphere, punctuated by traditional onsen resorts, old samurai houses, and weeping cherry trees.
Explore Semboku's surroundings by going to Morioka (Fesan, Rock-breaking Cherry Tree, &more) and Akita (Akita Akarenga Kyodokan, Senshu Park, &more). A center of political power during the feudal era, Hirosaki today stands as a hub of culture and history in the north of the island.

Towada

Tucked away among the foothills of the Hakkoda mountain range, Towada tourism revolves around its eponymous lake and the surrounding national park.
