Lent iconic status as a result of its famous bridge and opera house, Sydney has a down-to-earth charm that enhances its spectacular setting and functional efficiency.
Sydney Opera House and Bradman Museum & International Cricket Hall of Fame are good opportunities to explore the local culture. You'll explore and learn at Norman Lindsay Gallery & Museum and Australian National Maritime Museum. Get out of town with these interesting Sydney side-trips: Barrenjoey Lighthouse (in Palm Beach) and Wollongong (Wollongong Head Lighthouse & Nan Tien Temple). There's lots more to do: wander the streets of Darling Harbour, kick back and relax at Bondi Beach, take in the dramatic natural features at The Gap Park, and get to know the fascinating history of The Rocks.

Museum-lovers will appreciate Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre and Museum of Brisbane. Old St Stephen's Catholic Church (Pugin Chapel) and Captain Cook Memorial and Lighthouse will appeal to history buffs. There's still lots to do: enjoy the sand and surf at Burleigh Heads Beach, get some fabulous bargains at Harbour Town Outlet Shopping Centre, stroll through Coolangatta Beach, and identify plant and animal life at Burleigh Head National Park.

Traveling by flight from Sydney to Gold Coast takes 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and train; or drive. In April, plan for daily highs up to 30°C, and evening lows to 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) to allow time to travel to Melbourne.

Get some historical perspective at Split Point Lighthouse and William Ricketts Sanctuary. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit and Art Gallery of Ballarat.
